Class Description

The California Routine is arguably the most well-known partnered dance routine in Lindy Hop. Although it's origins are somewhat murky - was it choreographed by Frankie Manning? Al Minns? Is it actually anywhere in that famous Hellzapoppin' choreography? (check out this blog post if you're interested) - it holds an important place in modern Lindy Hop vernacular. This Fundamentals class will teach you the full California routine and focus on best practices in learning, remembering, and practicing choreography.

Fundamentals classes are aimed at any student who has completed the Lindy 1 curriculum. For this class, we are also requiring students to have taken Charleston 1. Please talk to the instructors if you have any questions. We encourage students to consider taking Fundamentals classes concurrently with either Lindy 2 or Lindy 3 classes - everyone can always be working on their fundamentals!

Please note: students who are taking "Lindy 3: Performing The California Routine" are required to take this Fundamentals class, or to demonstrate to the instructors that they already know the California Routine. No partner is required - students will be rotating throughout the class.
