Class Description

The California Routine is arguably the most well-known partnered dance routine in Lindy Hop. Although it's origins are somewhat murky - was it choreographed by Frankie Manning? Al Minns? Is it actually anywhere in that famous Hellzapoppin' choreography? (check out this blog post if you're interested) - it holds an important place in modern Lindy Hop vernacular. This Lindy 3 class will use the California Routine as the basis for learning important principles of performance in dance, including aesthetic and energy.

Lindy 3 classes are intended for students who have completed (and are confident in) all elements of the Lindy 2 curriculum (which includes at least one month of Fundamentals). For this class, we are also requiring students to have taken Charleston 1. Please talk to the instructors if you have any questions. The topic for these classes changes every month at the discretion of the instructors.

Please note: students who intend to take this class are required to take "Fundamentals: The California Routine," or to demonstrate to the instructors that they already know the California Routine. We will not be re-teaching the routine itself in the Lindy 3 class. Students may register for this class and refine the routine with a partner if they so choose.
