June 2023: Movin' and Groovin'

Some of our favorite dancing happens when we’re able to move confidently, have a two-way conversation with our partner, and both respond to ideas from the music. In this class, we’ll work on each of these skills through a variety of games and prompts. You can expect topics like:

• Finding a personal groove in your walk

• Brushing up on classic solo jazz vocabulary

• Adjusting pulse to match changes in the music

• Identifying ideal moments for breakaways and reconnects

• Surprising - but not scaring - your partner

• Saying “yes” to new ideas

Prerequisites: This class will be taught at a Lindy 3 level. Intro to Solo Jazz, or equivalent experience, is also recommended. You should feel comfortable with a variety of 6- and 8-count shapes, solo movement, identifying phrases in swing music, and be comfortable enough with the basic patterns that you can start to notice and respond to ideas from your partner and the music as you dance.

Note: This class is held in the back room of the venue. After you enter the main room and check in, approach the doors on the left hand side of the room.
