October 2023: Authentic Jazz Class with Mariel Gastiarena

Get ready to work on your rhythm and movement of your whole body! In this challenging class with Mariel Gastiarena, a visting instructor from Argentina we'll work on understanding the musicality of the traditional moves to be able to break them and play with them. We'll have some exercises, some improvisation and a fun and challenging routine to put everything in context and play with the music.

Warning: This conflicts with Lindy 2 which is held at the same time.

Pre-requisites: We have encouraged Mariel to teach this class for experienced jazz dancers and to challenge students in this class. Significant experience with authentic/vernacular jazz is recommended. At minimum, you should have taken our Solo Jazz and Shim Sham series AND several other jazz classes. If an instructor calls out a canonical jazz step like "Fall off the Log" or "Suzie Q" you should be able to do it on command.

COVID-19 Policy: For this in-person class, we are requiring masking and proof of up-to-date vaccination (including boosters within the past 6 months as eligible). Acceptable masks include: KN95, KN94, N95, and surgical masks. Cloth masks are not sufficient; we will provide surgical masks at the door for those who need them.
