Curriculum Changes: Lindy 1

Jan. 2, 2025, 4:01 p.m.

Hiya folks! We are announcing some changes to the Lindy 1 curriculum for 2025.

Here’s what’s new: instead of a single Lindy 1 class, we’ll be offering two separate Lindy 1 classes – Lindy 1: Movement and Lindy 1: Partnership. Beginning in January 2025, all new students must take both classes to progress to Lindy 2 and/or Fundamentals classes. Both classes will be offered on a rotating basis in our two locations throughout the year, and they may be taken in either order.

Got a question about this? Check out our FAQs below - if your question is not addressed, feel free to email us at info@bostonlindyhop.com. Please note that we’ll be on a holiday break from December 20 - January 6, so responses may be delayed during that time!

FAQs:

Why the change?

  • We’re hoping this helps better prepare students to take on all of the new concepts and material coming your way in the Lindy 2 classes.

Is there a “better” order to take the new Lindy 1 classes in?

  • Nope! These classes are designed to be taken in either order. Different teaching styles and class approaches may resonate with different people, so you may find that you prefer one class or the other, but they can be taken in either order. We recommend that you take the Lindy 1 classes in separate sessions, rather than trying to take both simultaneously.

How will you be scheduling the different Lindy 1 classes?

  • Lindy 1: Movement and Lindy 1: Partnership will be offered on an alternating basis in each location. For example, if there is currently an ongoing Lindy 1: Movement class in Cambridge, the next Lindy 1 in Cambridge will be Lindy 1: Partnership. To the best of our abilities (and depending on the calendar), we’ll also be staggering by location – so Lindy 1: Movement in Cambridge should be taught in the same session as Lindy 1: Partnership in Brookline.

I took Lindy 1 late in 2024. What class should I take next?

  • Prior to this change, we generally recommended repeating Lindy 1 anyways. If the only class you’ve taken with us previously is the “old” version of Lindy 1, we would recommend taking either of the new Lindy 1 classes before moving on to Lindy 2 or Fundamentals classes - either class should be fine for you!

Can I take my second Lindy 1 class simultaneously with my first Lindy 2 or Fundamentals class?

  • No. Moving forward, the full Lindy 1 curriculum can be completed only by taking both Lindy 1: Movement and Lindy 1: Partnership. Instructors for Lindy 2 and Fundamentals classes will assume you have already learned all of the vocabulary covered in both classes. Material from Lindy 1 classes will not be retaught in Lindy 2 or Fundamentals classes, and if you are not prepared for a Lindy 2 or Fundamentals class, your instructor may recommend that you sit class out or re-enroll in a Lindy 1 class prior to taking Lindy 2.

If I am working on my Starlight Pass, which Lindy 1 should I take?

  • If you are a Lindy 3 student working on your Starlight Pass, either Lindy 1 class will count towards your requirements! Remember that you must take all three Lindy 2 classes (Momentum; Connection; and Rhythm, Timing, and Music) in addition to at least one Fundamentals class prior to beginning Lindy 3 classes and starting to work on your Starlight Pass. We will not count Starlight Pass progress until you have completed all of the prerequisites.
